Just an update while C finishes her notebook entry on today's activities.
A bit ago we decided to just have fun with science this year. We're still following the "road map" we outlined of what to study this year, but rather than going through lessons from a book we're going through experiments in several kits. We're using a set of fun projects called Color and Light as well as a fun anatomy kit from Wild Goose. Today we completed another lesson on the eye. It was so much fun! (Well, the experiment but not the video. More on that in a minute.)
C's version of our project:
"We first made an eye model with a lens and a balloon. The balloon represented the sclera and the lens represented the lens. (Then she laughed.) The air inside the balloon represents the vitreous humor inside the eye. We then took the eye model into a dark room and pointed it at a lit candle. We saw how the lens reflected the flame inside the balloon - or the eyeball - to the back which turned upside down. Then we discussed what we just did."
Then, she watched an online video of a cow's eye dissection. (I'm brave, but I'm also squeamish, so dissections are something for a day when her dad can help!) It is a great video, but the site also has other bits and pieces that are neat, including printable instructions on how to complete your own dissection after a stop by the butcher shop.

Cool experiment. We are leaning about the human body just now. I'll check out the site you linked to see if there is anything we would like to try.
You'll have to post if you do a dissection. I just can't handle it! I can't wait until we study amphibians though because there is a really cool kit with a jelly frog at the ed suppy place around the corner. Now that's my kind of lab!
